According to the South California Earthquake Center, the state has a 99.7 percent chance of experiencing an earthquake of at least a 6.7 magnitude sometime during the next 30 years. Sitting on several faults – including the San Andreas Fault, the San Jacinto Fault and the Sierra-Nevada Fault – low magnitude earthquakes are a frequent occurrence in the Golden State.
